TBEA Passes National Appraisal for 29 Power and New-Energy Equipment Items

Overview

On October 24, the China Machinery Industry Federation hosted a new-product (new-technology) appraisal in Tianjin. A committee of 50–96 top experts led by academicians of the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Chinese Academy of Engineering unanimously certified that 29 of TBEA’s transmission, distribution and new-energy power-equipment products passed national-level appraisal in a single session—18 reaching internationally leading level and 11 internationally advanced.

The certified portfolio spans four categories: primary power equipment, prefabricated complete substations, energy-storage support equipment, and flexible power-electronics for distribution networks. It includes special-purpose and new-energy transformers, high-voltage reactors, wind/PV/storage prefabricated box-type substations, AC/DC interconnection devices, smart controllable distribution transformers, station-area storage, micro-grid power-routing devices, smart distribution terminals, digital carbon-management platforms and integrated data-center power modules.

Background & Interpretation

1. Industry Background and Policy Context

Under the dual-carbon goals and accelerating new-type power-system build-out, China’s power-equipment sector is undergoing a paradigm shift. High renewable penetration raises new requirements for grid flexibility, stability and intelligence, making high-end, systematized transmission and new-energy equipment the main thrust of industrial upgrading.

2. Core Drivers and Underlying Mechanisms

Among the results, the Roy Sync solid-state transformer has entered mass production and operation; the 400 kV oil-immersed current-limiting reactor solved the industry-wide problems of large amplitude and high noise at high voltage classes and is already operating in Abu Dhabi; the 110 kV integrated offshore-PV step-up box substation succeeded at the 500 MW Hebei Changli offshore-PV project; the smart controllable distribution transformer will go live at Southern Grid’s Zhaoqing bureau in November. The chain from single-device breakthrough to system integration to project deployment is closing.

3. Market Structure and Value-Chain Impact

TBEA’s spectrum of breakthroughs covers onshore/offshore wind, ground/floating-PV, storage and pumped hydro, fits HV main grids and urban-rural distribution upgrades, and serves metallurgy, marine power, data centers and heavy-truck charging. This signals simultaneous gains in domestic substitution of high-end equipment and export of system solutions.

Implications & Outlook

Near term, national appraisal endorses these products for major-project procurement; medium term, grid investment and renewable-support demand will keep lifting the high-end T&D equipment market. Watch grid-investment pace, offshore-PV and storage project scale, and export progress of domestic high-end equipment.

Takeaways for Industry Participants

  • Equipment makers should use system integration as the lead, closing gaps in transformers, reactors and flexible distribution.
  • Renewable developers should favor nationally appraised high-end products to raise plant reliability.
  • Investors can mine equipment leaders with core technological moats along the full source-grid-load-storage chain.
